A short Tenants update

It all starts with a simple idea. Next thing you know you're smack in the middle of rural nowhere, filming a zerobudget throwback to eighties horror. Yeah, that's kind of what happened when I proposed a short film called 'The Tenants' to Silvain and Robert (the director and DOP of Fragma, respectively). Robert said he wanted to 'do something together again' (our first collaboration being The First Day in 2003). And of course, I was more than happy to oblige.

I wanted to keep it simple... Just two people in a house, chased by... well, by something or someone (I'm trying to avoid spoilers here). It was actually quite amazing how quickly this production came together (and for NO money). Cast, crew, location, equipment (we shot on HD, using the Sony 950 with 4:2:2 output - and no, I don't know what that means, but it sounds pretty cool regardless); everything was done in a matter of weeks.

We shot the film in the last week of september; five days of fun and hard work. Silvain has already locked the offline-edit of the film and is now knee-deep in further post production. As I'm also composer on this production, I'm pretty busy creating a musical soundscape that fits the atmosphere we're trying to convey. Think: Penderecki, Ligeti, Bartok... you'll get it. More on that later.

Bearded Bauer Power Hour

Few television shows warrant the conjoining of the words 'kick' and 'ass' (and in that particular order). The Emmy Award-winning 24, however, is still one that does, in my humble opinion.

Okay, so the show is basically a high production value soap opera with shit blowing up, but it somehow still manages to glue me to my television set. While I thought the fourth season (which should have been dubbed 'Run Habeeb Run') was pretty weak overall, Day 5 restored my faith in Jack Bauer and those funny people at CTU, who still should seriously consider introducing a proper screening system for future employees - otherwise it could just as well be called 'mole central'.

Day 6, which premieres this january, promises to deliver more angry (Muslim) terrorists, willing to blow up half the United States because... well, because they're angry. And Muslim, which means they must be really really evil. Of course, America's last boy scout Jack Bauer is there to join (or spoil) the party. Check out the teaser trailer for Day 6 here.

Welcome to my blog!

Finally! I managed to complete a task that's been on my Outlook tasklist for ages: create a website. After writing and posting this entry, which will be the first one on my blog (not counting the Jabberwocky test-message that was on for about half a year), I shall victoriously open a bottle of mediocre supermarket wine whilst striking the 'create website'-entry from my tasklist. O glorious day!

First of all - since you are reading this - thank you for visiting my site. Feel free to roam around the different sections and read about me and what I do. The Gallery-section contains some clips of my work you can watch and / or download. I'll update it with new stuff whenever I can. I've also put up a rather nifty Flickr-badge.

So what am I going to do with this site? Well, basically, I want to use it as a means to give those who want to know some info about me and the projects I'm working on. Second of all, as a writer... I like to write! And that's just what I'm going to do on this blog. Write about anything and everything.

So there it is; my first entry. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to find myself a corkscrew.
