Bought a house in the city of Vermeer

One of life's nasty little truths is that it can always get busier. Especially when you really don't want it to. Case in point: writing a feature film, structuring two more, working on several commercials, organizing the premiere for The Tenants and planning a wedding at the same time has taken up - and still takes up - most of my Outlook Calendar-space (yeah, I'm one of those planning-types that actually mark different events in their calendars with different colors). Of course, you can always settle for even less sleep by squeezing in... I don't know... buying a new house?

Yeah, that's right, I kind of feel like that scene in Speed when Keanu's character tells that Bullock-girl the bus they're in (which is also rigged to explode, as you may recall) is leaking gas, to which she shrewdly replies: "What? You felt like you needed another challenge or something?"

Let me tell you, I definitely didn't feel like I needed another challenge. Yet, as fate would have it, Marije and I just happened to step into a quaint little house in the historical city of Delft a couple of weeks ago and... well, to make a long story short: we liked it so much, we just decided to buy it.

So enter the price negotiations, mortgage-plans, rebuilding ideas, budget-calculations and the strenuous search for a contractor you can actually trust. The inevitable interior-decoration fights haven't even really started yet, so that's something to look forward to. All in all, ambivalence reigns supreme in my head at this point, as I'm really excited about moving into our new home, yet at the same time stressed out already from all the work that has to be done the coming weeks... did I say weeks? I meant months.

I'll still try to update this blog as often as I can and keep you posted on both the projects I'm working on and other things.
