Catching up: The Tenants premiere

For those of you wondering about the Tenants-premiere (which I announced a month or three ago): I'm sorry I never got around to writing something about it. Don't worry, I won't get into more superfluous jabber about working around the clock, the new house in Delft, the wedding and whatnot. I'm playing catch-up with a lot of things in my life at this moment and reporting on the premiere means I can strike one more item off the list. And hey, since the event took place exactly one month ago to this day, I probably couldn't have found a better time to write this post (well maybe directly after the premiere, but that's another issue). So, about the premiere. There wasn't any red carpet. Or expensive champagne. Or scantily clad super models. BUT we had a lot of fun regardless. Cast, crew and other invitees made their way to the Ketelhuis Cinema in Amsterdam on saturday, july 21st to be the very first to see The Tenants on the big screen.
While Robert (The Tenants-DOP) had some trouble installing and tweaking the High Def-projector (and by 'some trouble' I mean he had to work on it for about eight hours), the screening itself went like a charm, leaving a lot of people in the theatre palefaced and scared shitless - just what we wanted.
It's always a somewhat strange experience to see your work on the big screen for the first time. At least, it is to me. I had seen the finalized version, but only on a pc-monitor and with pretty crappy sound. Sitting in a packed theatre, feeling the anticipation as the lights dim and the film starts playing - and not just any film, but YOUR film... it's just an awesome feeling.
In short: it was a great premiere and now that the film's been properly 'baptized', it's time for us to let it loose upon the world. We'll try to get it into a couple of (fantasy)-festivals around the globe first and release it on DVD (limited) later. I'll keep you posted on festivals that have accepted the film. Who knows, maybe you'll get a chance to see it on the big screen.
Directly after the premiere, film journalist and horror-aficionado Emiel Labree (creator and webmaster of the great Dutch horror-website Nederhorror.nl) interviewed Silvain and me about the film and other projects. You can watch the video here. It's in Dutch, but don't let that spoil your fun watching my bloated head.
