All quiet on the Western Front? Well, not really. It's just that I've been busy working my ass off these past couple of weeks, trying to keep up with the frantic hodgepodge I call my life. Honestly, I don't even know how I managed to cram all the work I did into such an imbecilic short amount of time, but hey, I did.And although my body's telling me I should probably sleep for about a month or so, I'm not at all shy to be blatantly self-congratulatory and give myself a good ol' pat on the back for a job well done.
First off, most of the wedding preparations are done and done. And considering the level of ambitiousness Marije and me set for our 'day of days', that's actually quite a feat. We had the pleasure of attending a performance of Lovely Moods - a gospel choir, put together especially for our wedding day - yesterday evening and it was just pure bliss. These are some of the best gospel choir-singers in The Netherlands and it shows (in an audible sort of way). I tell you, when these guys and girls start belting, they just convey pure, raw emotion. It's absolutely beautiful. And to think that they'll be performing at our church ceremony... it's going to be nothing short of amazing, I'm sure.
The wedding invitations are done, too. The design, created by my art-director buddy Patrick Hamers, is breathtaking (at least, we think so) and as a little extra, mr. director himself, Silvain Hooglander, made a kick-ass short film that'll be included with every card we send out. The film features... well, you'll just have to wait and see. I'll upload the film on Vimeo (love that site) later this week and embed it here for everyone's enjoyment.
Then, in the midst of the wedding frenzy and 'regular' work (writing several commercials, company films and the like), opportunity unexpectedly knocked on the door and asked me if I could write a full-length feature screenplay in under three weeks. Now, Silvain and I had been juggling with a certain horror-project for a couple of weeks, but the only thing I actually had was a rough outline of the plot and characters.
But hey, there's no harm in trying, right?
So I worked and worked, creating the best possible story I could within the given time. And guess what, after all the nearly sleepless nights and countless hours hitting the keys on my trusted ol' laptop computer, I managed to produce 119 pages of pretty solid screenplay. The film's called TRANSIT and I'll be writing more about it pretty soon. Just wanted to say that I'm very, very happy with the way it turned out. Especially for a first draft written in such an insanely short amount of time. For statistics-lovers: in five days I managed to write 23.153 words / 108.888 characters including spaces / 132.059 characters without spaces.
